W.H.O. PREDICTS DISRUPTIONS IN GLOBAL SUPPLY CHAINS. A LOOK AT THE NUMBER OF PPE NEEDED EACH MONTH FOR ESSENTIAL WORKERS REVEALS A STAGGERING AND INTIMIDATING OUTLOOK AS RISING CASES THREATENS GLOBAL SHORTAGE.

The demand for PPE equipment has surged since the beginning of the COVID-19 outbreak, and healthcare professionals are dependent on these items for their safety. According to the World Health Organization, The necessary amount of PPE that is needed each month for health responders around the world to treat COVID-19 is as follows:

  • 89 million–  All over the global health responders need 89 million masks every month.
  • 30 million – Every month 30 million gowns are used by healthcare professionals.
  • 1.59 million –  1.59 million goggles are needed each month for essential workers.
  • 76 million- per month 76 million gloves are benign used by COVID-19 Care personnel to prevent the spread of germs.
  • 2.9 million Each month healthcare personnel need 2.9 million liters of hand sanitizer to ensure proper hand hygiene.

An estimated 89 million medical masks are required for the COVID-19 response each mont

As if the figures were not daunting enough, the World Health Organization predicts another round of shortages come November through February. Necessary rations will have to be implemented at every level to maintain inventory. The dangers of running low on essential equipment in the states was unimaginable in a pre pandemic America. However, the reality is – if healthcare organizations and other entities do not prepare for the inevitable shortages and delays in shipping, we will be faced with unprecedented levels of disparity. According to WHO Spokesperson Fadela Chabib;

“Since the start of the COVID-19 outbreak, prices have surged. Surgical masks have seen a sixfold increase, N95 respirators have trebled and gowns have doubled. Supplies can take months to deliver and market manipulation is widespread, with stock frequently sold to the highest bidder. WHO has so far shipped nearly half a million sets of personal protective equipment to 47 countries,* but supplies are rapidly depleting. Based on WHO modelling, an estimated 89 million medical masks are required for the COVID-19 response each month. For examination gloves, that figure goes up to 76 million, while international demand for goggles stands at 1.6 million per month.“

Based on WHO modelling, an estimated 89 million medical masks are required for the COVID-19 response each month. For examination gloves, that figure goes up to 76 million, while international demand for goggles stands at 1.6 million per month. Recent WHO guidance calls for the rational and appropriate use of PPE in healthcare settings, and the effective management of supply chains.

The World Health Organization calls on industry and governments to increase manufacturing by 40% to meet rising global demand. Answering the call organizations and coalitions such as Cannaobe Labs has secured reliable inventory for essential PPE. WHO has warned that severe and mounting disruptions to global supply chains of personal protective equipment (PPE); catalyzed by rising demand, panic purchasing, hoarding and misuse – we are risking lives by ignoring the unfortunate truth. Stockpiling for medical centers and hospitals is critical to saving the vulnerable from COVID-19 and other infectious diseases. WHO Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus echoed the sentiment expressed by Chabib;

“Without secure supply chains, the risk to healthcare workers around the world is real.  Industry and governments must act quickly to boost supply, ease export restrictions and put measures in place to stop speculation and hoarding. We can’t stop COVID-19 without protecting health workers first,” said WHO Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

Cannaobe Labs is continuing to grow our coalition of reliable suppliers and distributors. Working with governments, industry and the Pandemic Supply Chain Network to boost production and secure allocations for those critically affected.
